Nike's China sales have dropped roughly 30% as the brand loses ground among younger consumers to rising domestic rivals, threatening one of its key growth markets.
Nike's (NKE) China revenue has declined approximately 30% year-on-year, with domestic competitors — led by Anta Sports (2020.HK), Li-Ning (2331.HK), and FILA-licensee operations — capturing significant share among 18–30 year-old consumers who increasingly prefer local brands with culturally resonant marketing and competitive price points.
China represented roughly 15–17% of Nike's total revenue at peak and was a key margin-accretive market given lower SG&A relative to North America. A sustained 30% decline structurally impairs Nike's long-term earnings model and removes what was previously a consensus growth catalyst. This is not a macro cyclical issue — it is a brand relevance crisis with a longer recovery runway.
NKE faces further multiple compression. Adidas (ADS.DE) has marginally better China positioning but shares broad sportswear sentiment risk. Anta (2020.HK) and Li-Ning (2331.HK) are direct beneficiaries and should see further institutional inflows from reallocation.
