The U.S. reportedly held direct negotiations with Iran's IRGC in May, a geopolitically sensitive development that could influence oil prices and Middle East risk sentiment if confirmed.

Reports emerged that U.S. officials held direct talks with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in May 2025, marking an unprecedented channel given the IRGC's U.S. terrorist designation since 2019. The talks reportedly addressed nuclear programme parameters and regional proxy activity, though no formal agreement was announced.

Direct IRGC engagement signals Washington is willing to bypass traditional diplomatic frameworks to achieve a nuclear deal, suggesting a higher probability of sanctions relief than consensus currently prices. For oil markets, Iranian supply re-entry at scale — estimated at 1.0–1.5mn bbl/day of additional exports — would apply meaningful downward pressure on Brent crude.

Brent (BRN) and WTI (CL) face near-term bearish optionality on confirmation. Beneficiaries of sustained high oil include Saudi Aramco (2222.SR) and U.S. majors Exxon (XOM), Chevron (CVX). Tanker names like Frontline (FRO) could see route disruption risk recede.

Watch for official State Department confirmation, IAEA inspection reports, and any Congressional pushback under the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. Brent at $78/bbl is the key technical support to monitor.
